When I first purchased my domain “rahul-taneja.com”, the first thing I wanted to do was create a professional email address with my domain name. I had an option to create an email address with my web host, I created an email address but after using Gmail for years, the web host email interface was awful. It was really difficult to organize emails and things got lost quite often. It was highly unreliable and unsecured.
Then I realized I could set up Gmail with my custom domain, first thing crossed my mind is it very difficult and time-consuming? Luckily, its neither of both the things. I was able to create my professional email address with my custom domain ([email protected]). In this article, I will show you how to set up a professional email address with Gmail and G Suite.
What is Professional Email Address
A professional email address is one which has a custom domain in it, example ([email protected]) is a professional email address. Email addresses with @gmail.com, @hotmail.com, @yahoo.com etc are not professional email addresses. Google offers multiple methods to verify your domain ownership with HTML tag, HTML file download or Google Analytics. If you have a bit of technical knowledge that HTML file upload would be very easy. If you have no technical knowledge then the easiest way would be to add an HTML tag on your website. Select HTML tag from the given options and then copy the HTML tag information provided. As you still need to enter the HTML tag information on your website, Do Not Click Verify.
Now you need to login into your WordPress Admin area and insert a plugin ‘Insert Headers and Footers’. After activation of the plugin go to Settings >> Insert Headers and Footers Page, Paste the HTML tag information you copied from G Suite Setup screen into the header section and then click the ‘Save’ button
Now as we have copied the HTML tag information on our website we will return back to the G Suite setup page and click on ‘Verify’ button. You have successfully verified the ownership of the Your Domain.
Now Setting up your Gmail email account
We have verified our domain ownership to Google, now we will setup G Suite (Gmail) email with our website.
Now login to your cPanel dashboard. Click on ‘MX Records’ under ‘Email’ section.
Scroll down to bottom of the page to see all the entries and delete all the entries in your MX Records.
G Suite setup will be showing you a few entries required to be added to the MX Records. Now in your MX Records page add an entry in the following way and click on ‘Add New Record’ button
Same way repeat the step and add all the entries stated in the G Suite Admin Setup Page. After adding all the MX entries return to your GSuite Setup Page and complete the setup.
Remember, DNS changes may take a few hours for them to filter through the net so if you do not start getting the e-mails right away, give it time for these settings to propagate.
Congratulations, You have set up your Professional Email Address with Gmail and G Suite. Now you can go to your Admin Console and setup Additional Users if required.
The G Suite costs $5 per user per month or $50 per year.
